Research has proven that our happiness can be drastically increased through small changes in our daily lives. But happiness experts have very different ideas about how we can achieve this. From treat yourself to the one-minute rule, we will examine the techniques of leading happiness writers Laurie Santos, Dan Harris, Gretchen Rubin, Shawn Achor, and Dan Gilbert. As a class, we will analyze the genre of writing about happiness in a variety of mediums: podcasts, articles, blogs, TED Talks, and books. Students will research and write with an online audience in mind. Writers in this class will produce pieces about course themes such as productivity, building relationships, clutter clearing, self-care, and spending time and money. Major assignments will include a podcast pitch, blog post, and researched argument papers.
