Cinema Studies at Suffolk County Community College investigates historical and contemporary cinema by exploring the cultural, commercial, aesthetic, and political forces at work in the production and consumption of film. The film industry is understood as a commercial and artistic system that has helped shape the world today. Students in this program will develop an understanding of film history, theory, and criticism and will be introduced to the production of digital film. In addition to core courses, students will enroll in cinema electives to further their education in theory/criticism and/or production.

The Cinema Studies program is designed to best situate students for further baccalaureate courses with a major or minor in film, as reflective viewers and creators of media. Students will also complete complementary arts and sciences classes to prepare for the modern world as well-rounded, creative, and critical thinkers.
